Perennial Echo Privacy Policy

For privacy questions about Perennial Echo, contact us at hello@perennial.you.

Summary

Perennial Echo is a desktop application designed to run on your machine. Your personas (communication fingerprints), drafts, and API keys stay local unless you choose to send text to an AI provider you configure. We do not require an account or subscription to use Echo.

What Echo Stores Locally

On your device, Echo may store:

  • Personas (communication fingerprints) you import or create (Markdown .md files you own)
  • Draft input and output for the current session and editor restore points
  • Your API keys for the providers you enable (Bring Your Own Key)
  • App preferences (selected persona, target channel, UI settings)
  • Free-tier token balance (remaining managed-AI allowance, synced from our servers when you use Default)

This data remains on your computer unless you delete it or uninstall the app.

What Leaves Your Device

Echo contacts remote services only when necessary for the features you use:

PurposeWhat is sentWho receives it
Default provider (managed AI)The text you submit for generation, plus relevant persona context, when you generate with DefaultDeepSeek (deepseek.com) via Perennial's managed proxy. By using Default, you agree to DeepSeek's terms of service.
Bring Your Own KeyThe text you submit for generation, plus relevant persona contextThe API provider you configured (OpenAI, Anthropic, xAI, Google, Kimi, Qwen, DeepSeek, or another supported provider), sent directly with your key
Free tier / licenseDevice fingerprint and license validation metadataPerennial (perennial.you) to register your free allowance or validate a paid license
App updatesVersion check metadata (current version, platform)Perennial release infrastructure (see perennial.you /echo download manifest)
Built-in MCPGeneration requests initiated from MCP clients you connectSame as your active provider (Default or BYOK)

When using Default, your prompt content is transmitted to DeepSeek's API through our proxy. When using Bring Your Own Key, prompt content is transmitted directly to your chosen provider.

What We Do Not Collect in Echo

Perennial Echo does not:

  • Require a Perennial account or login for free tier use
  • Upload your personas to Perennial by default
  • Store your BYOK API keys on Perennial servers
  • Use your drafts to train Perennial or third-party models (provider policies apply to API traffic you send)
  • Sell your personal data

Optional future features (such as cloud-hosted team personas) will be described separately before they ship and will require your explicit choice to use them.

Third-Party Subprocessors (Default Provider)

When you use Echo's Default managed provider, we route requests to:

ServiceRoleData received
DeepSeekAI inference for Default draftsPrompt content and generation context you submit

perennial.you (Marketing Site)

Downloading Echo from perennial.you may use standard web analytics (for example, Vercel Analytics) on the marketing pages only: page views and coarse device or region data. That analytics does not include your Echo drafts or personas.

Purchasing a persona file (communication fingerprint) on perennial.you is governed by the main Privacy Policy for orders and questionnaires.

Updates and Security

Echo checks for application updates automatically so you receive security fixes and improvements. Update packages are distributed via the release channel linked from perennial.you.

Keep your operating system and Echo installation current. Protect API keys as you would any credential on your machine.

Changes

We may update this policy as Echo evolves. Material changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
